What is Gourmet Recipe Manager?

Gourmet Recipe Manager is a long-running open-source recipe manager popular on Linux desktops. Its HTML export uses Schema.org microdata (itemprop attributes), so every field — title, ingredients, instructions, prep/cook times, ratings, source — is structured and machine-readable.

Will my ratings, photos, and nutrition come through?

Yes. Because Gourmet emits Schema.org microdata, we read every itemprop and map it cleanly: ingredients with quantities and units, instructions in order, ratings, source URL, prep/cook times, servings, categories, and image references all carry through to the output formats.

Can I move my Gourmet collection to a modern app?

Yes — convert to JSON or .cook here, then import into the destination app. Schema.org JSON-LD works in Mealie, Tandoor, Paprika, and most modern recipe apps.

Q: How do I export from Gourmet Recipe Manager?

In Gourmet, select the recipes you want (or all of them) and choose File → Export. The native Gourmet XML File Format produces a single .grmt file you can upload directly. The HTML format writes one or more .html files plus an images/ folder — zip the lot for an easy upload.

How to export from Gourmet

Open Gourmet Recipe Manager

Launch Gourmet on your Linux (or other) desktop with the recipe database you want to export.

Select recipes

Choose the recipes to export — Edit → Select All for the whole collection, or pick a subset.

Export as Gourmet XML or HTML

Open File → Export Selected Recipes (or Export All). "Gourmet XML File Format" produces a single .grmt file you can upload directly. HTML writes one or more .html files plus an images/ folder.

Original Gourmet development stopped around 2022. The community has continued it as Gourmand, which is actively maintained. If you're staying on Gourmand, great — your collection is in good hands.
